Humans vs AI in your marketing: the task-by-task split.

Most brands automate the judgment and hand-craft the production. It is exactly inverted. Here is the full cheat sheet: thirty-plus marketing tasks, sorted into keep and delegate, with the traps marked.

AI is not a strategist you hired. It is a multiplier you installed.

A multiplier multiplies whatever it is pointed at. Point it at researched direction and it compounds. Point it at nothing and it produces confident noise at scale.

So the model is one line long: humans decide direction, AI multiplies execution. The hard part is knowing which side each specific task belongs to. That is this page.

Research

Customer and market research.

AI does
  • Reading hundreds of reviews, Reddit threads, and support logs into clustered themes
  • Scraping competitor ads from the Meta Ad Library into a structured sheet
  • Transcribing and summarizing customer interviews and sales calls
  • First-pass competitor positioning scans across sites and socials
Humans keep
  • Setting the extraction targets: pain, triggers, objections, identity, failed alternatives
  • Judging which quotes are signal and which are noise
  • Choosing the one belief to test this cycle. The model will argue for all twelve.
Copy

Copywriting.

AI does
  • A dozen hook variants of an already proven ad
  • Platform adaptations: one script into Meta, TikTok, and YouTube lengths
  • Cleaning research notes into structured creative briefs
  • First drafts of landing page sections from a locked angle
Humans keep
  • Originating net-new angles. Generated concepts regress to category cliches.
  • Claim checking. Models invent benefits your product never had, fluently.
  • The final read: does this sound like a customer's thought or like an ad?
Creative

Statics and video.

AI does
  • Background swaps, scene composites, and format variants of a winning static
  • UGC-style hooks, product demos, and B-roll from prompt plus product images
  • Captioning, cutdowns, and aspect-ratio versions
Humans keep
  • Product accuracy review: labels, colors, claims shown on screen
  • Rejecting the uncanny: hands, physics, faces that will read as fake in feed
  • Deciding which winner deserves variants at all. Iterating a loser multiplies a loser.
Media buying

The account itself.

AI does
  • Delivery optimization inside the platform. Advantage+ finds buyers well once creative and offer are right.
  • Compiling the weekly performance view from platform and store data
  • Alerting on spend anomalies and dead automations
Humans keep
  • Spend floors and kill criteria, written before launch
  • Scale, kill, and iterate verdicts against the CAC ceiling, weekly
  • Budget calls that touch cash flow. No model feels your cash conversion cycle.
  • The decision trail: one line per call, so the account has a memory
The traps

Tasks that look delegable and are not.

  • "Analyze my account and tell me what to do." The model has no account history, no cash context, no market timing. It outputs generic best practices with confidence.
  • Choosing the angle. Synthesis surfaces candidates. Choosing is judgment built from history and research. Delegate this and you test noise.
  • Approving creative. A model grades against patterns, not against your research. Confidently mediocre output passes every automated check.
  • Interpreting blended ROAS. Any tool will happily optimize margin erosion if that is the number you feed it.

The reverse trap exists too: founders hand-writing caption variants, manually resizing creatives, and reading five hundred reviews line by line. That is multiplication work. Delegating it is not lowering quality. Hoarding it is lowering output.

The one-question sorter.

For any task not on this page: "If this is done wrong, do we find out in days or in months?"

Days: delegate it. A bad caption variant dies cheap and visibly. Months: keep it human. A wrong angle choice or a bad budget rule burns quietly for a quarter before anyone sees it.

Speed of feedback is the whole split. AI belongs where mistakes are cheap and visible. Humans belong where mistakes compound in the dark. We run accounts on exactly this line: direction human, execution multiplied.

Next step

One human task nothing on this page replaces: knowing your numbers.

Step 1: run your account through the calculator. Two minutes for your aMER, your CAC ceiling, and the monthly amount slipping through the gap.

Step 2: if the "humans keep" columns have no owner at your company, request the audit. That gap is exactly what we cover.
